LHV Precast is proud to be part of NYSDOT Region 7 Project D265146 for Route 30 in the Town of Duane. The challenging project called for the excavation and installation of a three-sided culvert for the Deep River flow. The site was near the local boat launch. Friend Commercial Contracting’s team built a coffer dam with sheet piling to provide a clean and dry area to set the culvert. Route 30 had to be routed around the site with a temporary corrugated steel pipe culvert to keep the Deep River flowing.
The three-sided culvert was 60’-0‘ long with a 26’-0‘ span and 11’-6” rise manufactured and delivered in twelve 5’- ½” lay lengths at 48,260 lbs. each. These were set on invert slabs with pedestal walls that were 30’ x 1’-6” thick with a matching 60”-6” length manufactured and delivered in eight 7’-6 ½” lay lengths at 60,100 lbs. each. There are two precast cut-off walls 30’ long and 2’-6” tall and 1’-6” thick at 17,000 lbs. as part of the culvert.
The culvert ends were finished with six wing walls. Two were 12’ long and 51,500 lbs., two 11’ long and 48,500 lbs., and two were 10’-6” at 44,600 lbs.
NYSDOT Region 7 Engineer-in-Charge was Matthew Kielmeier. The culvert precast engineering was performed by Ronald Thornton of Concrete Engineering Solutions. Friend Commercial Construction led by owner John Hutchins performed site preparation and construction. Precast estimating was managed by Joe Murphy of LHV Precast. Rozell Industries of Queensbury expertly provided crane services.
