LHV Precast: The Strength Behind New York’s Infrastructure

When it comes to building resilient, long-lasting infrastructure, precast box culverts are a top choice for engineers, contractors, and municipalities. At LHV Precast Inc., we manufacture high-quality precast concrete box culverts in our NPCA-certified facility, ensuring strength, durability, and efficiency for projects of all sizes.

Precast Box Culverts –  Are they right for your next project ?

As you know, precast box culverts are reinforced concrete structures manufactured off-site in a controlled environment and then transported to their final location for installation. Precast box culverts achieve superior concrete quality, ensuring resistance to environmental stressors like freeze-thaw cycles, chemical exposure, and abrasion. With proper design, they can last over 100 years with minimal maintenance.

These structures are commonly used in:

  • Bridge Construction & Replacement – A cost-effective alternative to traditional bridges.
  • Road Crossings & Drainage Solutions – Helping manage stormwater flow and prevent flooding.
  • Utility Tunnels & Pedestrian Walkways – Providing safe and reliable underground passageways.
  • Escape & Reclaim Tunnels – Custom-built solutions for industrial and municipal needs.
  • Stormwater Management – Used in underground detention systems and ditch enclosures.

Why Choose Precast Box Culverts?

  • Durability & Strength: Designed to withstand heavy loads and harsh environmental conditions.
  • Efficiency: Precast manufacturing speeds up project timelines with rapid installation.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Reduces labor and material costs compared to cast-in-place alternatives.
  • Customization: LHV Precast offers both three- and four-sided box culverts tailored to project specifications.
  • Quality Control: Manufacturing in a controlled environment ensures consistent, reliable performance.

LHV Precast was proud to be part of NYSDOT Region 7 Project D265146 in the Town of Duane, NY. This complex project required a three-sided culvert for the Deep River flow near a local boat launch. To facilitate installation, Friend Commercial Contracting constructed a coffer dam with sheet piling, allowing a dry working environment.

The culvert, measuring 60 feet in length, 26 feet in span, and 11 feet 6 inches in rise, was manufactured in twelve sections, each weighing 48,260 lbs. Additional elements included pedestal walls, cut-off walls, and wing walls, all expertly crafted and installed with precision.

In Steuben County, LHV Precast supplied a 70-linear-foot three-sided culvert for Fuller Road over Steuben Creek. This culvert included invert slabs with retention sills cast as a single piece, ensuring enhanced stability. The heaviest sections weighed up to 63,500 lbs, and the structure was completed with four precast cut-off walls and Stone Strong retaining wing walls featuring a Chiseled Granite finish.

LHV Precast’s precision engineering, combined with expert site work by BP Excavation and crane services from J&J Crane, ensured the successful execution of this crucial infrastructure improvement.
